This book contains vol 10, 11, 12 of DragonBall. You are getting more for your money with three volumes for $17.99, but if you already have these volumes it may not be worth buying them again. However, there are a few perks to buying the VizBig Edition. There cover is a nicer quality paper and has "jacket flaps" on the front and back, there's an interview with Akira Toriyama in the back (which is fairly interesting, and gives a real sense of his personality through his answers - one that you would expect from creating this world and these characters), and some color pages inside. I also personally, really like having a big book to read, and with this series it's really nice to be able to read more of at once. Rather than that instant "gotta have more" feeling after a seemingly short amount of time and pages, I can actually take my time and enjoy the story as it moves and develops. I would actually love to have the whole DragonBall and DragonBall Z series in such large editions. I think it's an absolutely wonderful idea for bigger and longer series.

In this volume, Goku and friends are fighting in a competition against their sworn enemy school (and several peons). There are some surprises from both the Turtle School and the Crane School, but the result leads to more fighters for the side of right, and just in time too! Lord Piccolo has been released and is searching for dragonballs. Goku runs off to stop him without care for his depleted state and suffers for it. For the younger reading audience of today, DragonBall will appeal to kids who love Pokemon. There's battles, special powers, goals, training, good triumphing over evil (and having to work together and train hard to do it), and often something to be learned from each adventure or battle. There's also much more than just humans. There are anthropomorphic animals and creatures, monsters, demons, and aliens - even the main character is an alien and has a tail! For the most part its a good, wholesome fighting and adventure tale. There is a little skirt chasing - mainly by a "dirty old man" (aka Roshi), but Pokemon has it's own skirt-chasing character with Brock - and they get about the same reaction and results (getting smacked and reminded not to do that). It has very nice art that is a little cartoon-y but that fits in the fantasy world that this is. It doens't take itself too seriously so there's always something fun and a bit of humor even with serious (sometimes life or death) battles going on. I highly recommend this series and this book!
