ISBN: 978-142152-672-0 Grade: 6 Haruhi is a poor girl who works off a debt by working at a all-male club as a boy. Twin brothers Hikaru and Kaoru get into a fight over Haruhi. In a sub-plot, another club member, Kyoya, tracks down the mother of Tamaki.
For a manga that is supposed to focus on Haruhi, she seems the least interesting of the characters. It is the guys that seem to have most of the drama and interest. While Hikaru and Kaoru are both attracted to Haruhi, she doesn't seem to be interested in either and is seemingly clueless about their interest. Not only that but, she starts getting a crush on Tamaki. Considerable focus is on the tension between Hikaru and Kaoru which does get resolved in this volume. Haruhi is just ... there and doesn't do much but be someone other characters talk to.
I'm not entirely sure the point of the sub-plot over Tamaki's mother, as this particular plot developed in earlier volumes. It appears to be just a way to generate drama over whether or not Tamaki joins his father's business. It's an interesting plot, although it seems rather disconnected from the rest of the story.
I did enjoy this volume, although there wasn't anything to get me terribly excited about other volumes, nor am I curious to read earlier volumes.
