Being named head of S.H.I.E.L.D. has its downside: it's liable to turn one into a paranoid schizophrenic. But, as Nick Fury has discovered, there is a certain plus to being head honcho: he now has the authority to jumpstart under-funded, under-appreciated projects like Bruce Banner's defunct Super Soldier Program. While Banner only reluctantly signs on, Hank and Janet Pym (former assistants, now Banner's superiors) eagerly make the move to their new HQ. And then S.H.I.E.L.D. fishes someone out of the North Atlantic, someone who hasn't been seen for sixty years ....

More set-up, but fascinating set-up nonetheless. :) Nick Fury is tougher than titanium nails, but hides it behind a charming smiling and wise-cracks. Hank and Janet Pym recall the old Hepburn and Tracy films of yore; they are constantly bantering and obviously love one another; but they have an obvious edge to them, too. Hank has an ego to suit his new identity as Giant Man, and neither has any respect for Bruce. Bruce Banner is the ambitious loser on the team: brilliant, but fettered by his own failures and low self-esteem. Tony Stark is as brilliant as Bruce and as egotistical as Hank and as charming as Nick; a fascinating (and nasty) combination; his taste for vodka and oranges at ten in the morning worries me. Can even Captain America meld this bunch of egomaniacs into a cohesive team?

Well, considering the bad guys who are on the horizon, I sure hope so.

In the meanwhile — get the team a shrink!!

Oh, yeah, one more thing. Nick Fury? The man practically screams Samuel L. Jackson. Is anyone in Hollywood reading this?
