Sadie and Saskia Tizzle are twin sisters who rule the all-girls St. Dunstan's School for Wayward Children. They terrorize the other children and the adults there as well. The only one who gets their respect is Erik, the only boy at the school.

When Saskia is adopted by a wealthy, eccentric woman named Miss Rimmer. Erik and Sadie plot to escape the school and reuinite with Sadie. Saskia herself finds her life is in danger and uncovers a mystery surrounding Miss Rimmer.

What hits you immediately about this book is that it is a combination of a traditional book as well as a graphic novel. You get anywhere from 1-3 pages of sequential art mixed in with 1-3 pages of printed text, so you're not sure if you are reading a book or a graphic novel.

I found the combination to be very enjoyable, making things a lot more interesting and exciting. Sort of combining the best of both worlds.

Sadie and Saskia are no sweet little Orphan Annies. They are Alpha girls and pull as many tricks on the adults as they can. Erik is equally as sneaky, being a thief like his father.

Sadie and Saskia become a good deal more sympathetic when the twins get separated and the wackiness abounds. Erik is a charming rascal and he was my favorite characters. The adults are alright as well, being given pungent characteristics that make them disliked immediately by the children. However even some adults wind up getting sympathy as well.

The plots get a bit more absurd and frantic as you get further into the book, but I didn't find that a detriment. Plenty of action, memorable characters and visually appealing art.

I can recommend this to adults and teens/tweens alike.
