I interviewed Jamie Chase several months ago and he mentioned working on his Myx series. I received the first three issues of Myx so I could review them and do another interview with Jamie with Myx as the focus.

The first issue has four stories:

"Tourist Trap" — in which a man travels to Mexico to find his missing sister and discovers the truth behind a local monster.

"Blizzard" — in which man decides to walk through a forest during a snowstorm.

"Forest" — a story of two men fleeing a mysterious entity in a forest.

"Collision" — in which a scientists start an experiment with a proton accelerator.

I loved the photo-realistic look of the characters in "Tourist Trap". The landscapes, beaches and tropical jungles all look and feel authentic. You get a lot of story in a few pages and it is an interesting one. The only part I didn't like was that I didn't fully understand the ending and I'm still unsure after several re-readings.

Living in South Dakota, I know blizzards, so I felt the wind in "Blizzard", and how snow can blind. The use of mostly white with swaths of black really sold the environment. I got a bit of a jolt with the ending and it was good, put a much more interesting spin on the entire story.

"Forest" was the opposite, black with swaths of white. The artwork very effectively conveyed the darkness and spookiness of a forest. I felt this was the best of example of horror in this issue.

"Collision" was kind of fun; not much to it, but I loved the final panel.

Like all anthologies, you are bound to like some stories more than others. And there is good stuff here.
