I interviewed Jamie Chase several months ago and he mentioned working on his Myx series. I received the first three issues of Myx so that I could review them and do another interview with Jamie with Myx as the focus.

In this second issue, there are the following stories:

"Attraction" — about a woman with a secret that proves deadly.

"Unearthed" — in which two men pursue a zombie with unexpected results.

"Demon Maitre" — a loose adapation of a Lovecraft story where a tourist stays at a remote french manor and investigates the strange violin-playing of the lord of the manor.

"Attraction" appealed to me because it had a strong woman as its central focus. She has very unusual eyes, and has the ability to make any man devoted to her, which results in deadly consequences for the men. I liked her beauty, her presence and her complexity, although I felt that her choice to avoid entangling a particular man to be odd. I felt like it didn't fit the rest of the story.

"Unearthed" wasn't that interesting to me until the zombie showed up. Then it got considerably better with the appearance of the woman. I didn't realize it at first, but the human characters were often a little distorted. It added a little extra to the story.

"Demon Maitre" is excellent. I loved the spookiness of the house and the eerie music playing, and the ending is a wonderful visual evocation of Lovecraft.

A strong trio of stories, with "Demon Maitre" being my favorite of the three.
