Kylie, Ian's sister/mother gets out of prison and learns Ian has been sent to live with his mother in England. She goes to England and sends Ian back to his father, while she takes care of her mother. Events and situations get fairly confusing and I'm not exactly sure what happens next; suffice to say Ian does not have a consistently happy life.
This is more a book of emotion and people rather than plot. It's hard to enjoy a book like this when the situation, circumstances and events are pretty depressing. Everyone makes choices that affect Ian negatively and which I wanted to shake them silly for, but you understand why they behave as they do.
My feelings toward Ian himself are complicated. He is by far the most sympathetic character in the graphic novel, but he is a pretty passive character. Bad stuff happens to him and he accepts it like it is his lot in life to suffer. Part me of me wanted me to see him stand up more, but given what he has been through, it's easy to see why he acts the way he does.
A compelling, if somewhat confusing tale, strong on emotion and dialogue. The artowrk is fine, but the female characters were hard to tell apart sometimes.
