I do not like the plot set up of the DVD at all, even though it has some sharp, funny writing to it, some adventurous moments, some good characterization, and the other things I like in my comics and DVDs. I have no complaints about the execution of the work, which is well animated and well paced. But, I can’t fully support a story where a bastard sorcerer has two female slaves in chains, forces them to be sex objects on stage for money, grabs one slave’s breasts more than once, hits her, forces her to refer to him as “master” and generally emotionally abuses her.

The set up: Sorcerer Shibas Scotch and his three slaves (one is male) wander around medieval wherever killing monsters and demons for money. They usually have a debt collector on their heels. The male slave is hopelessly in love with Shibas, leading to a few unfunny running gags. Shibas is darned good at his job, ridding the town in the DVD of all its nasty creatures and restoring its good name in the process. We learn that even though he’s a jerk, when the chips are down, he’s capable of a good deed or three (especially when the price is right).

The funniest joke is when the nice slave girl he abuses and he are forced to share the same body. Somehow, Shibas seems less offensive as a female than as a male. In fact, I kind of liked him as a female.

But, I’m burnt out from seeing females exposed and abused in DVDs and comics of various kinds. In the space of a week, I’ve seen the following in DVDs and comics: two rapes in comics, innumerable exposed breasts, god knows how many naked girls in public baths, too many posearamas (one comic book company sent me a jiggle book, claiming that it should appeal to female readers), tons of women in danger or women being subjected to violence, lots of costumes and dresses get torn off women, a D cup worth of tit jokes, etc, etc, etc. I’m tired of just ignoring it all. It just GETS to me after awhile, you know?
