ISBN: Grade: 7 Well, our team of mercenary warriors have followed the thieves of the crystal ball all the way through the desert, but the crystal ball they were supposed to recover wasn't amongst the thieves' effects. Our heroes' new mission is to hand a scroll over to the king. They've also figured out that the dark elves that stole the crystal ball may have pulled a fast one on them and may not even have the object in question now. To make matters worse, a dark elf has showed up in the kingdom with destruction on his mind.
Considering how much I dislike fantasy, I am surprised how much Im getting into these Lodoss stories. The quality of the writing and the character interactions make these books readable to me. It's just a case of the way a work is written meaning more to me than the genre of the work. Lodoss War has that first Star Wars combined with The Lord of the Rings feel to it. It's relatively simple and fun like the first Star Wars, yet it is also a serious epic about good and evil, like The Lord of the Rings.
Lodoss War comics are perfect for those who like their fantasy works to be intelligent and exciting. This is manga for those who don't think they like manga. It's just good storytelling.
The art is also quite lovely. It's manga style, but it's not that overly cute type of manga that I sometimes get sick of. It's just serious enough in its art style to tell a fairly serious story.
