Well, I can't in good conscience give this issue a good review. It's not because I am shocked by the issue (I am not easily shocked by anything any more — I hit half past-jaded years back). I just believe it's a mistake, motivated perhaps by the author's anger at the idea that some stores will not carry this title. I was a little shocked that some stores are playing censor towards this comic (censorship is something that still shocks me). But this issue seems to be saying, "Well, if you won't carry this book, I'll give you something really shocking." The reaction is one that won't win the book any new fans and makes it a little harder to defend the book.
In this issue, the sex, violence, and curse words are ramped up to the max, which is sad because the book rarely before resorted to cheap shock value. I can handle shock value, although I don't admire shock for its own value much. But, I know that many people will be shocked and disgusted that the lead heroine kills a bunch of cops in it. That fact didn't shock me, but in the wake of 9-11, it's an unfortunate plot device. But, the real reason I can't recommend this issue is it simply isn't as well written as the other issues.
Fortunately, Cardello returns to form with the next issue: The Killmegirl — Death Of The Twins, a heartfelt tribute to the city of New York and those who died in the Twin Towers disaster.
