Translator: Jack Wiedrick, Sarah Alys Lindholm Grade: 6 Seikichi, a fireworks maker, meets Sora, a strange girl named who wants to hire him to build a rocket to take her to the moon. What Seikichi doesn't know is that Sora is also an alien monster who crashed into Edo on a space ship.
In episodes 14-26, Seikichi finally discovers that Sora is one of the "sky beasts." No only does he discover that, but so do the rest of the townspeople — including the local cop, Akai, and the Men in Black, who live to kill sky beasts.
I found this two-DVD set to be better than the first, but not by a great deal. Seikichi and Sora aren't that much more interesting as characters, though Sora fairs the better of the two. The other characters are more or less the same. The character that appears to get the best development is actually Yu, the woman/sky beast that Akai has hidden and kept fed with human blood. She and Sora have something of a history, which gets explored a bit more, and Yu gets more humanized, as well as more interesting.
The gimmick of the fireworks is still given the short-shrift, but at least it is put to more sensible use in these episodes, particularly when Sora is captured and Seikichi and the others go to her rescue.
One thing I found considerably annoying is the sudden and wacky scenes where the characters break down the forth wall and talk back to the audience, making self-referential comments about stealing from another anime. I found it extremely distracting and completely unnecessary.
I also had trouble with the last couple of episodes, which seems to have gone off the deep end, like they ended the drama too soon and scrambled to fill in the remaining episodes with some nonsense about putting on play that retold the Seikichi and Sora story.
Nevertheless, this is somewhat enjoyable series, if nothing to rush to buy or rent.
