When their clan is wiped out by Lord Gakushi, three young samurai — Mayuko, her brother Jun and her lover Haniya — find themselves in a city run by Araku, Gakush's evil retainer. Haniya becomes a hired gladiator of sorts, earning coin by fighting and killing other samurai for sport. Jun insists they do this in order to have enough money and status to get close to Araku and Gakushi. Mayuko disappears in the middle of the comic, only to reappear in a geisha house.

I thought this was a fairly solid story. The art, characters and plot were good, if not the most engaging or interesting I've ever seen.

Inserted into many of the panels are short statements that teach the way of the samurai, which I particularly appreciated as it gave more emotion and meaning to the events and actions of the comic. That raised up the quality of the issue for me and made it worthy enough for recommendation.
