I have never been much of a fan of the One Piece series, and with wolume 58 I haven't been quite converted. This volume is about as closes as I have come to appreciating and enjoying the series.

As the volume opens, one of Whitebeard's pirate sons has attempted to kill him with a sword, believing Whitebeard has betrayed the family. We learn that it was a trick by the Navy get Whitebeard's son to kill him.

The Navy still plans on executing Ace, Luffy's older brother, and most of the manga is about the assault by Luffy and everyone else to reach Ace and free him. They eventually do, but things take a twist at the end.

Part of the reason I liked this particular volume of One Piece is that I was actually able to follow the plot and action more. When I understood more, I was able to enjoy it more. One Piece is still incomprehensible to me at times, mostly because the action is still very complicated; very confusing. It's hard for me to tell who is doing what to whom sometimes.

Still, I managed to decipher this volume better and it improved my opinion of the series a bit more.
