Credits Writer: Christina Z Penciler: Mike Deodato Jr. Inker: Mike Deodato Jr. Colorist: Chris Sotomayor Letterer: Dave Sharpe Grade: 7 Still on her mission to take down the Brethren of the Blue Fist, Greer Grant Nelson a.k.a. Tigra decides to go undercover. Taking the pseudonym "Greer Sorenson", Tigra enrolls in New York's Police Academy, hoping to find answers to the cause of her husband's death. However, as Tigra keeps looking, she fears that the answers may not be what she wants to hear. And then there's the question of her new beau, McMullin. Is he as noble as he seems?
Wow, what an ending! I'm not a fan of Christina Z yet but she seems to have a good bead on how to write suspenseful situations. The ending is a perfect cliffhanger. It makes me want to pick up the next issue right now.
I liked Tigra's investigations. Something is definitely rotten in the NYPD and the way this is all unfolding is very intriguing. Was Bill Nelson a part of this group? If not, why was he so close to them in the first place? I'm very curious.
The leading lady also intrigues me. Some of Tigra's actions (like prancing around in a bikini and putting out for McMullin so quickly) may offend some female readers. On the other hand, these actions are consistent with Tigra's character. (Anyone remember how she flirted with Jarvis?) So I'm perfectly fine with them.
However, that's not why Tigra is holding such an interest for me. The reason why I like this book is the insights Z has into Tigra's character. Most of them lie on page three, where Greer explains that although she loves being a part of a team (i.e. The Avengers), she wants to work "without a team who always watched my back" for once. Why? Because for her, "The price for remaining the same is too high ...." I like that.
And, of course, I also like Mike Deodato Jr.'s art. It's stunning, plain and simple. There is nothing more to say.
So all in all, I'm enjoying this book. The art is beautiful and Z writes great suspense and a great Tigra. I'm definitely buying (and reviewing!) the rest of this mini-series.
