Naruto and Killer Bee escape their protective "cage" to help their friends win this war. Even though the two of them are the targets, they believe themselves to be strong enough to win. Now they just have to get past Raikage….

I'm, jumping into the story randomly with this volume, but the "story so far" at the beginning helps a lot. Plus, it's pretty easy to grasp what's going on here and now, even if I'm missing pieces of the overall plot. I love seeing Naruto in control of the Nine Tails chakra power. I'm not sure why it gives him an unearthly glow, but it works visually and with the story and his character to have a visual difference showing he's in control. I love Killer Bee's octopus tentacles. His "Eight Tails" are really tentacles, which he can actually manifest! It's pretty cool. I'm a bit annoyed with his poor attempts at "rapping" and constantly saying "you fool," but it does make him stand out even more. The really powerful characters all have odd quirks, I just don't care for this one at all. Also, I have to wonder about the original Japanese, and what liberties were taken with translation.

The flashbacks serve a good purpose, but seem to take forever. I know they aren't taking up as much time for the characters as they do for the reader, but still, there are two lengthy ones in this volume. The battling is well done. Naruto, Killer Bee and Raikage have most of the action scenes, so fans will definitely enjoy that. If you've been following the series, this volume does a great job of introducing some plot moves and brings Naruto and Killer Bee back in with a bang. A great read.
