A continuation of the series. Misao Kurusu arrives, bringing a new conflict with the Festum. Once again, things rely on Kazuki, but he's basically blind and crippled from overusing his fafner.

I didn't love the series, but I found it to be worth watching if you're a fan of mecha series, especially Neon Genesis Evenagelion. The movie is a letdown. If you haven't seen the series, it will be nearly impossible for you to understand what's going on. Even if you have, it's not a seamless transition. Time has passed, and most of the characters seem new. Misao is part human, part Festum, and he's keeping Shoji alive inside him somehow. This movie is basically about Misao trying to create a sort of peace between the faction of the Festum to which he belongs and the humans of this island; he is also trying to come to terms with his new nature. However, it comes off as one big battle that's rather dull. Part of why it's dull is we have no connection to any of the characters. I am impassive about all of it. There's nothing thrilling or engaging about this movie.

The art is the same as the series (not my favorite style — especially with those hash marks on their cheeks). The voice acting is a good quality, but not impressive. Even the yelling seems a bit lackluster.

If you enjoyed the series and were satisfied with the ending, then check out the movie. Otherwise, you're not missing anything by skipping it.
