Awesome! That was my first response while reading this. I was laughing out loud, a couple tears coming to my eyes, from the point the kitten says "Bitchin'!" through the next several pages. This comic is seriously epic. I read it and immediately had to read it again. Ehmm Theory is about Gabriel, an average guy murdered by his girlfriend. He and his new kitten, who also died, are brought back to life by St. Peter to help them out and "earn" Gabriel's way into Heaven ... or something. They also allowed the kitten to speak English, so that Gabriel has a companion he can confide in. The first job has something to do with stopping circus zombies and finding Gabriel's biological father.

I am not normally a zombie fan, but every once in a while I find a zombie story that I can really enjoy. My zombie list probably has less than 10 zombies stories on it, and this has just made that list. I don't doubt that issue two will be just as funny as this if not more so. It's also rare to find a comic book that truly makes me laugh. While I'm reviewing a digital review copy, I know I want to get this comic as a hardcopy for my collection. While I wait for issue #2, I will be re-reading this issue many times; it's just that good!

The art is also fantastic! I love the style. It's clean and well designed. Great coloring. I love the use of blank (and slightly purpled) space for the backgrounds when Gabriel is talking to St. Peter in "purgatory." I also really like St. Peter's poof of Heavenly-ness for one panel. It's funny while also validating things. The cat comes off as a little cartoonish, but it works. The gore is great; it's not gross-gore, it's funny. I especially love how the first zombie's head flies apart into many pieces when Gabriel kicks it.

The pacing and order the story is presented in is excellent. It hooks you, then brings you up to speed. While extreme, the murder and anger that leads up to it is believable, but "pokk" is definitely not a sound for a gun to make. At first, I was less than enthused about the talking cat, but after the explanation of the situation and the cat's hilarious phrases, I became a fan. The kitten definitely doesn't act like a baby, though, as it helps "kick some tiny undead ass." St. Peter is a little odd in appearance at first, too, but that is also explained. One of my favorite pages is St. Peter explaining the situation to Gabriel, with Gabriel accepting and asking about the cat's ability to talk. Gabriel is taking everything in stride, rather like Alice when she enters Wonderland or the Looking-Glass. St. Peter comes off as not quite honest or not all there, which does make me wonder about this whole quest thing ... but in a "good for the story"-type way. The teleporter / gas chamber is an interesting touch, adding to the weirdness and humor of it all. I do wish they had come up with a better name than "Gabriel" for the main character, but I'm sure there is a reason for it. Also, the little tidbit of memories we glimpse that clue us in on the interests and possible whereabouts of Gabriel's father indicate that this comic could get very interesting indeed, in a darkly twisted way.

Ehmm Theory will be coming out in May, but stores will be ordering it in March. I recommend you tell your local store to order some, so you can check it out.
