This series has just gotten interesting. First, we have The Moth giving Alex the typical superhero response: vengeance is not the right path, keep your head down, etc. There's a character page about The Moth at the end, and I like that he's not an alien or a mutated human, but an ancient, native race to this planet. Second, Alex disregards the tip / warning and uses his new powers try to learn more about his father's killer, but he goes fiddling with some secret stuff. He's in IT and should know better, especially since he's not a hacker (or he wasn't before he got his powers). His powers did not make him smarter.
We get another glimpse into his day job, where yet another good-looking woman who is flirting with Alex looks very angry for no apparent reason other than that's the expression the artist is best at. I also groaned when I saw the ninja sword (it's not a katana -- those are curved) on display edge down. I could chalk it up to ignorance, but if you're going to throw in references in the background (which, in this case, includes more than this sword), you should do a little research. That woman in the panel with the sword is very unnaturally posed. Her arms are stiff and she seems to be barely holding the phone in her claws. Otherwise, there's lots of good body mechanics, especially in motion.
I appreciate the realism of the mugging. Most of the time, they just want your wallet, phone, whatever, and the gun is just for show. Alex does right by just handing those over when he can't get away. However, you should not actually hand them over like Alex does; you should toss or drop them so that the mugger will have to look / go where those items land, allowing you to get away. Alex got off lucky with just a punch to the solar plexus, since it was a gang of them that could easily have beat the snot out of him. This again shows how average Alex is, and then we as readers get to enjoy the excessive karma bestowed upon the sleezeballs who mugged him and the cohorts.
This issue is definitely upping the excitement. Stay tuned to see what trouble Alex gets himself into next.
