ISBN: 978-1-4215-5154-8 Grade: 4 Yuki tries to keep the peace, and she finds that her blood is the antidote to a new blood supplement being distributed.
Yuki finally gives in to Zero's offer to suck his blood. He looks and acts rather like a mindless zombie while she's drinking his blood, even when he objects to her looking inside his mind. In fact, most of the time the characters have dead eyes. The eyes are mainly white space, with the details around the edges. Every once in a while we get a panel where they actually show life / energy / emotion in their eyes (usually a close-up), but even then it's not much. The art is pretty to look at but falls short of really doing anything for the story. Yuki's hair appears stringy and greasy in this volume as well.
I'm confused why the lead vampire hunter doesn't want the vampires killed. He even saves one on the verge of death, brings him to the vampire hunter headquarters, and nurses him back to health. I've read several volumes of this series, and I still can't tell what the point is or where the story is going. It seems to have left the original story far behind. It's also trying to include some vampire politics, but it's a strange combination with the mind-control Sara seems to wield and Kaname seeming to act against his own kind (but not really). It's a lackluster plot that jumps around a lot in this volume without accomplishing anything. The part where the vampires lose control after taking a new blood-supplement is the most interesting part. Maybe because something is actually happening and it's not boring panel after boring, posed panel. Even that part is confusing though, as we're not sure who distributed thesupplement or why, nor do we know why Yuki needs everyone to bite her, or at least drink her blood to be "cured." For someone with such a dire need to drink more blood (who also doesn't want to drink blood), she sure doesn't mind giving her own out as a quick fix.
I wish this series was more interesting, with a deeper plot and more energy.
