Nikaido, Natsuki, and Caiman search for leads about Caiman's identity. Caiman runs into a dangerous memory that has a physical effect on him. The Cross-Eyes are busy trying to cover up their involvement in a murder. And Choto's identity is revealed to En after Nikaido's devil friend loses his devil status.

I love seeing Caiman and Nikaido bond further. This volume definitely draws them closer. I especially love when Nikaido "sees" Caiman's true form for just a minute. Her love for him seems so pure, especially in that moment and her asking him to be with her at her shop after all this. I am quite the happy reader. We also get a tiny glimpse into Nikaido's past, which is enlightening and begins to touch on the awfulness of her power. I can't wait for the story to finish filling in that history.

The scene where Asu loses his demon status is particularly gruesome. I love how it's handled, in all the horror one would expect from demons. The situation with the Cross-Eyes is amusing, but it will also make you squirm uncomfortably, partially because the corpse is so large. I've been happy for Chota that he's been able to be with En, in a body that looks like Nikaido's, and En deserves that deception. Both Chota's and En's reactions to the truth being revealed is very funny … up until Chota accidently rips Nikaido's copy of the magical contract that bound Nikaido and En. I'm curious what will happen to En, but I'm more worried how Nikaido will avoid being recaptured. The end of this volume also contains a humorous section about En's crazy costume balls, and we see a special bonding between Shin and Noi that made me smile.

The art is wonderfully dark, demented, and gorey. It is often horrifying without being "horror." It is continually improving, becoming more natural and expressive. It's definitely an art style that takes some getting used to and won't be for everyone, but it really is amazing and does so much to create a tangible aspect of this world. I understand this world between because of the art, and that is powerful.
