The Straw Hat crew learns trouble is brewing in East Blue, home of several of the crew members. They run across famed pirate Golden Lion Shiki in a flying pirate ship. Initially thinking he is a compatriot they learn Shiki has the ability to cause objects to defy gravity and float. When they warn Shiki of an impending storm, Shiki betrays them by kidnapping Nami for her navigational skills. Luffy and crew pursue Shiki to his kingdom of floating islands and attempt to stop him from conquering East Blue.

While I am not a fan of One Piece, this was an enjoyable movie. The beginning was rather confusing, as it starts after Nami has been captured and with the crew scattered on various floating islands, battling giant scorpions, bears and other large animals. I'm not sure why this was done, unless it is typical of other One Piece movies. The characters pretty much all get their due and the fights are well done and exciting.

The plot was actually pretty well written to, with Shiki looking to conquer East Blue with his genetically engineered animals from a special plant in the area called IQ. There is also a small village that is victimized by Shiki, who has taken all the young men and women as slaves in his palace, leaving only old women and children. Additional drama is added when Nami and other villages suffer from a disease that only IQ can cure.

So it is up to the Straw Hat crew to beat the monsters, cure Nami and defeat Shiki himself. And they do all this with gusto.

One Piece fans should already have this movie and it's a good one for others who have a passing interest in the series, be it manga or anime series.
