Luffy and the Straw Hat crew escape the laboratory of the evil Ceasar Clown, freeing the children that were the subjects of his experiments. Luffy teams up with Law, one of the Warlords of the Seas in the New World, and their plan is to take down one of the Four Emperors of the New World.

The first half of this volume was a mess. I couldn't tell what was going in any of the panels other than the general idea of everyone escaping the lab. The way the battles and fights are drawn has always been on of the most difficult things about One Piece for me, and this volume doesn't change that. I would need hours to decipher what was going on in a single panel, and I pretty much skipped through it all.

When they finally escape, I get a better sense of what everything was about and what Luffy's plans are, which is pretty much just to take down a powerful Emperor.

A typical volume of One Piece, with a better than average plot, at least in the back half of the manga.
