The conclusion, wherein Hazel gains true freedom. Hazel's first witch-captor struggles with her new charge, a young boy who's very smart and wants to fly.

While I really like some of the visual metaphors this issue contains, it wasn't a very exciting read. The boy's section of the story is left open-ended (though, it's probably more about the witch than the boy). Hazel is put in a kill or be killed situation, which drags a little more than it means to due to all the individual panels dedicated to it. It should be one of the most exciting, dangerous, and thrilling things that happens in this series but it's not ... not even close. She also gets some closure with her former captor / mother-figure, which was surprisingly simple and calm -- and surprised me more that they parted ways. Ula has been waiting for Hazel, and I like that Ula is back. There are some proportion issues where occasionally Ula seems much smaller than normal, and it almost seems like the boy changes size and / or that the blackbird grows to be large enough to be ridden.

About ten months has passed since issue #3. While I'm glad to wrap it up, this issue really didn't add much to the overall series. It does show the final maturation steps Hazel takes before setting out with Ula on an adult adventure. The quality and format is the same as the previous issues. If you've read the other three issues, consider snagging this one for the conclusion -- maybe you'll get more from it than I did.
