Collection number 9 contains episode 206-229, covering three story arcs. The first one is the Straw Hat crew battling the Foxy Pirates crew in a Davy Back Fight. Whoever wins gets to pilfer crew members of their opponent. The second arc has the crew losing their memories of being Straw Hat pirates and their adventures to recover them. The third arc is the return of some of the Foxy Pirates.

If you're a fan of One Piece this is more of the same. According to some Googling, there is some difference between the original airing of these episodes and its adaptation to DVD, but that might only affect devoted One Piece fans.

I had previously seen some episodes of the first arc, and I didn't like the extensively dragged-out nature of the Captain vs Captain battle, so I wasn't looking forward to re-watching that again.

The second arc, called the Ocean's Dream arc, starts with the crew losing their memories. I found this set of episodes a lot more enjoyable. For newcomers to One Piece, this is not a bad arc to be dropped in, since you get a strong idea of each of the characters, a bit of their background, and how they relate to each other. They even managed to make Usopp, I character I dislike intensely, tolerable. The animation came across a bit substandard; it was distracting at times, but not horrible.

The third arc was ok; it falls in the middle of the other two arcs in quality. Not as good as the memory-loss arc, but better (and shorter) than the Davy Back Fight arc.

One Piece fans will no doubt get this volume in the continuing series, but for those who only have a passing interest in One Piece, then the Ocean's Dream arc is one I can recommend to watch, if not in this particular DVD set.
