Krampus battles the Nutcracker and encounters Old Man Winter, who points suspicion on his son, Jack.

There's an excess of talk in this issue, most of it in Krampus's voice with lots of "z"s. It's a mix of moving plot and reminding us of the uncomfortable rift between Krampus and the Santas. All his talking makes me wish the Nutcracker had said something, anything. I do like how the fight ends. It reaches a point of being predictable, but I like how it shocks the Sugar Plum Fairies. I can't decide if I like that there's a divide amongst the Santas on how to handle the situation and Krampus, but it certainly continues to add to the overall plot. Old Man Winter is an awesome addition. He looks a bit like an evil, blue-and-white Mr. Clean in a Mortal Kombat-style outfit. I definitely would not want to be on his bad side. The Holiday's bar at the end introduces an unusual character, outfitted with some even more unusual accessories (though I love the jack-o-lantern bolo). I have no idea how or why this new character's involved, especially to this extent, but I'm a bit curious how the comic will explain it. I love some of the decore and characters inside the bar, but I could have done without the large exotic dancer, specifically a rather up-close shot of her rear.

Krampus is rather pathetic in this volume, but he does remind us that he's had nothing to do but eat fattening food and watch Nick and Night for a very long time. I'm just disappointed that he seems like some schmuck rather than remotely scary. Even with the Naughty Bomb strapped to him by the Santas, I wish he wasn't so mellow and average and goofy. I can't say I'm impressed with this read, but it is quite unique.
