In this volume of One Piece, the Straw Hat Crew are in Dressrosa fighting Doflamingo, one of the Seven Warlords of the New World. They are allied with Trafalgar Law, a fellow pirate, to help in their efforts. At the start of this volume, Sanjii is captured by female assassin, Violet. Usopp and Nico are trapped in an underground kingdom, and Luffy is participating in a fighting Arena, while the rest are under attack on the Straw Hat ship, the Sunny.

One good thing about this volume is that there no lack of action and drama involving all of the characters, but it seems the ones who got the most character development were outside of the Straw Hat crew: Trafalgar Law, Assassin Violet, and Rebecca, a Gladiator in the Arena battles who has a surprising background. I was more interested in them than I was any of the others, which is probably a bad thing for this series overall, when secondary characters are stronger than the main ones.

The majority of this volume was taken up by an epic Gladiator battle, with the prize being the Flame-Flame fruit, something that once belonged to Luffy's brother and is what Luffy wants to win to beat Doflamigo. My first and only thought with the arena battles Luffy was fighting is that they could drag the battles out forever if it gets adapted into the anime -- I got the strong impression that this was written just so that would happen.

A fairly interesting volume of One Piece, due to every other character other than the Crew.
