Poppy is the low girl on the totem pole at an all-girls middle school, and suffers the harassment of Saffron, the snooty alpha girl. Nevertheless Poppy is the first girl to befriend a new transfer student, Cassia, and tries to keep Cassia from being Saffron's newest target. When the schools bi-annual brownie fundraiser comes up, Cassia hatches a plan to sink the brownie fortunes of Saffron and her cronies.

While the plot is treading very familiar ground, this isn't a bad thing here. The characters of Poppy and Cassia are very appealing. Poppy comes across as the more awkward freckled faced girl and Cassia a bit more posh, but both are easy characters to root for.

Saffron and her ilks are suitably snooty and unpleasant and you look forward to them being eventually taken down.

The artwork is solid, clear, with color tones that I really enjoyed. The art and color is very nice to look at and feels very fitting to the setting. I could only read an electronic version of this, and I really wished I had a physical copy to hold.

While not a revolutionary comic, Nutmeg is very enjoyable to read and to see.
