Taichi Keaton has a Master in Archaeology and is a former Special Forces specialist. He discovers he has talent as an insurance investigator and gets involved in quite a variety of investigations including kidnappings, terrorism, lost dogs, mysterious illnesses, and domestic troubles in families.

While the manga is about Keaton, I was more interested in the stories rather than in him. While we do learn he is divorced with a daughter and he struggles with wanting to become a gainfully employed archeologist, it all seems to fade away in the rather interesting cases he takes.

For example, the first case he takes is to recover an Olympic medal on behalf of a widow. It isn't too long before Keaton discovers a lot more hidden under the surface in the relationship between two Olympic rivals. Pretty much most of the stories are like that. Sometimes we get an idea of why Keaton was hired; sometimes that reason unfolds during the story. But whatever it is, the stories become heavily focused on people, their motivations, their relationships, and how complicated they all are. In that sense, Keaton is little more than a catalyst to the events of the story. Very rarely does his skill come directly into play, nor is his life outside of investigation shown.

Master Keaton may appear to be about a top notch insurance investigator, but it is the other people and stories which are far more interesting.
