Evil babysitters are a common trope for young readers. This book does a good job at capturing the dichotomy between what the kids see and what the adults see when it comes to Dervla. The fact that Dervla is a redhead fits with her being a demon. Even her name sounds devilish (it's a real Irish name, meaning "daughter of Ireland"). The fact that we get to see her turn into an actual, cloven-hooved, horned demon sets this story a bit apart from the others in the series. Depending on the beliefs of the reader, this could be much more realistic and much scarier. It's also set apart from the other books in that the protagonist / storyteller is also rather evil and scary. Becky becomes quite full of herself and does really horrible things. It's excused (or praised) because she was fighting a demon. Granted, that's part of how she survives, but she becomes just as two-faced as Dervla.
It's well-crafted, and it's easy to see both the good and bad. The art really captures Dervla's transformation quite well. It also captures Becky's haughtiness in those "I'm better than you" expressions she flaunts. This is definitely one of the scariest books in the series, though it's not my favorite due to how horrible the protagonist is.
