ISBN: 9781421571478 Grade: 7 First, Hayato, a somewhat obnoxious classmate of Ai's, sees Takeo as a stumbling block to dating Ai, and plots to force her to confess her feelings so she can move past them. To be honest, the "confess to move on" plot is one I've never really gotten. I don't approve of Hayayo's pushiness ... and yet I kind of like him anyway. The interactions between him and Takeo are particularly good. And the visit to the amusement park is fun.
Next, when Takeo helps a classmate become a better runner for the relay they're in together, Yamato worries that she has some competition. She and Takeo continue to be adorable, especially with his obviousness and kindness.
There's a bonus story about Takeo and Sunakawa as kids. It's so-so; I like the bit of history and the twist end, but little Takeo is grating.
The art fluctuates a surprising amount, and not just because there are a lot of intentionally silly panels. Sometimes those more comedic moments are poorly done even for what they are -- but not always. The more normal moments sometimes look really great and sometimes don't so much as well.
Even though I missed a couple of volumes, I was able to follow things just fine -- I didn't even need the "story thus far" section (though it's nice to know what I missed). The story is nice, light fare -- not fantastic, maybe, but sweet and mildly funny. (It proved a good distraction at a doctor's office!)
