ISBN: 978-1-4215-7725-8 Grade: 8 Nanami finds the fallen kami, who shows her the events of the past that she missed between this time turn and the last. She returns to her time and saves Tomoe, their love for each other being admitted.
Watching Tomoe care for Yukiji while she was pregnant was both difficult and touching. I like how he found others to help them, especially as the time of giving birth approached. Having her eyes bandaged for that time helped keep the illusion that Nanani and Yukiji were the same person, but I can't help feeling sorry for Tomoe that he was lied to in a roundabout way. Of course, the experience was good for him, helping him open up, as well as teaching him more about humans. I like how it helped Tomoe come to a realization about Akura-oh as well, and be at peace with what might happen as consequence of becoming human. I also like how Tomoe's words and peaceful seriousness made Akura-oh react, and their final embrace before parting ways was a beautiful and unexpected moment between them. The fallen kami's words drew illustrations comparing Tomoe and Akura-oh, which was nicely subtle. The icing on the cake was Tomoe's thoughts while holding the newborn baby ... and, of course, the lineage explained and the passing of Ryu-oh-Sama's right eye. I love how the manga-ka tied everything together for the whole of the series through this simple explanation as well as Nanami's meeting Mikage in the past.
The furball yokai is scary -- scary in a completely different way than Akura-oh, partially because he is willing to do anything to be the one who stands beside Akura-oh and is recognized by Akura-oh as such. The way he grows in size and power is frightening in a fitting way, and the final reversal of that to achieve a new level is even more horrifying. It's very well done.
This volume ends on a happy note, with Nanami lifting Tomoe's curse and the two sharing a kiss of love. It's beautiful and touching in all the right ways. I like that we get a glimpse of how they are closer, but that the way they interact hasn't changed much. I look forward to seeing their romance truly blossom, as well as how Nanami will balance this with her role of kami (assuming Mikage isn't sticking around, or they share the role).
