Credits Writer: Betvin Géant Penciler: Kay Inker: Kay Colorist: Milton Das Letterer: Betvin Géant Cover Artist: Michael Macrae Grade: 7 Presumably on the verge of entering Heaven, Michael finds himself yanked to Hell by Satan, who insists Michael owes him for saving him from the electro-shock therapy. Stan sends the uber-paranoid and reactive Michael back to Earth, where the man's paranoid delusions of persecution at the hands of those meaning to help him resume.
With the results of an encounter between Michael and a female friend, I think I get what Satan wants; I wonder if we will find out why he wants it, a question that never seems to get answered in other stories beyond him being evil.
I also wonder why the friend seemed to care so much for Michael, who doesn't seem very likable -- is it simply symptomatic of her own insanity? Some more backstory between them would have granted some better context and resonance in turn, made her more than just a plot point / victim.
I'm curious about what's going on with Michael's hands. Is it a superpower? Will he get other abilities?
My biggest question: could it be that Christ was himself actually a tool of Satan who believed himself pious, like Michael?
I'm not thrilled with the idea, as Satan presents it, that Michael has no choice -- that he will do what Satan wants no matter how hard he tries to do otherwise. However, it could make for good drama and horror, all the same -- especially if Satan eventually turns out to be wrong. At the very least, Michael does still have agency in that he tries to do what he sees fit --he's not a mindless automaton, so much as a fool whose foolishness works to the advantage of Satan.
I appreciate how the Bible story at the start of this issue gets twisted by Michael later; will that be this series' version of the monster-of-the-week, Michael mistakenly applying the stories to real-life people?
