ISBN: 1-93151-440-2 Grade: 9 Rath, Rune, and Thatz are an unlikely trio of Dragon Knights sent by the Dragon Lord Lykouleon to recover the demon king Nadil's head. Rath is a Yokai demon-warrior who will go anywhere as long as there is a demon to fight. Rune is an elfin prince who just wants to go back to Draqueen. And, Thatz is a human thief who will do anything for a reward. Somehow, despite all their bickering, these three work together with their dragons of fire, water, and earth. But, will a man-eating witch, evil twin psychics, and a pack of werewolves be a little too much for them?
Dragon Knights is one of TOKTOPOP's unflipped manga (meaning it's read right to left). This may take a little getting used to, but it's worth it. Dragon Knights is a very humerous adventure story. Much of the humor comes from trio's differences when it comes to goals, but then again, it could come from all the dressin' in drag these boys do. Poor Rune; he is seen this way most often because his long hair gives him a more feminine appearance. Facial expressions and side notes are a major key as well as they show the characters feelings and thoughts better than the dialogue bubbles.
The art is unique from a lot of other manga out there. The eyes especially are unique. I really like Mineko Ohkami's style as well her story-telling abilities. It's a little silly, but that's what makes it such a fun read. I can't wait to see what kind of trouble Rath, Thatz, and Rune get themselves into in the next issue!
