When not overloaded with homework, her work at Burrito Mania, she is working on a comic with a friend. While on break from her job, she spots some lights flashing and discovers a shootout happening between a lone green alien and other aliens. Instead of fleeing, she basically thinks "cool", and helps the alien. She also discovers she suddenly has the ability to create weapons using her imagination.
I immediately gravitated towards Sara, a classic underdog dealing with mean girls, but who loves sci-fi and often fantasizes about space adventures. I loved that she was self-assured, smart and has an active imagination. All of which helps her deal with the situation that would freak out most people.
The alien, who accepts being called Bob, is a bounty hunter fleeing (but yet) outwitting evil aliens called the Syndicate. That setup is a pretty familiar one, but that works perfectly well here. The ability to conjure up weapons and armor is a great idea and allows her to be on fairly equal footing with the aliens and his pursuers.
The only part I didn't like was Todd, Sara's boss. Todd follows her into the forest and assaults her physically as well as verbally. But he didn't seem to find the appearance of Bob all that odd. It kind of stretched credibility that Todd would be that oblivious as well as that nasty to Sara.
A great first issue with a solid premise and even more solid characters.
